Port Macquarie stabbing investigation after a 72-year-old woman was seriously injured

A teenage girl has been charged over an alleged Port Macquarie stabbing that left a woman seriously injured.

Emergency services were called to a home in Brierley Avenue after 9.30pm on Saturday following reports of an assault.

Officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District attended and found a 72-year-old woman suffering a stab wound.

The woman was treated at the scene for a stab wound before being taken to Port Macquarie Hospital in a serious condition.

She was later flown to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.

Port Macquarie stabbing charge before court

A 15-year-old girl was taken into custody at the scene and charged with reckless wounding involving domestic violence.

She was initially refused bail before appearing in a children’s court on Sunday, where she was granted conditional bail.

The teenager is due to return to court on September 7.

The charge is an allegation and has not been proven.
