A wanted man was arrested at Nimbin after allegedly kicking out at two officers as he jumped down from the roof of a Police vehicle, where the Lismore man had climbed in a last-ditch bid to escape.
Levi Hiko, 35, from Lismore had been on the run for several months.
He had repeatedly fled whenever officers tried to arrest him, over outstanding warrants linked to two alleged domestic violence offences and a failure-to-appear matter in Sydney.
The arrest took place at Nimbin on July 28, when officers from Richmond Police district finally caught up with Hiko.
Despite warnings that a Police dog would be deployed, he allegedly ran from officers and climbed onto a parked patrol car to keep his distance.
Officers surrounded the vehicle, and as Hiko jumped down he allegedly struck two officers with his feet before being arrested and handcuffed.
Police allege his actions caused about $4,000 worth of damage to the patrol car.
Lismore man pleaded guilty
He appeared in the Bail Division the next day, where Judge L Robinson refused him bail and remanded him in custody.
The Lismore man appeared again on Monday, this time by video link from custody, before Judge M Dakin at Lismore Local Court.
He pleaded guilty to damaging property worth between $2,000 and $5,000, and to resisting police — both charges arising from the Nimbin arrest.
The court accepted both pleas.
Judge Dakin referred the two matters to the Drug Court of NSW, with the case listed for mention in Sydney by video link on August 13.
DV charges
Hiko is separately charged in Sydney with intentionally choking a person without consent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, both domestic violence offences.
Those charges are listed for mention at Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on August 5, when Hiko is due to appear by video link from custody.
Court records show he has not applied for bail in those matters, and bail remains refused.
