An appeal to find missing Yvonne Whear has been renewed more than five months after she disappeared near Murwillumbah.
Yvonne Whear, 73, was last seen driving along Queensland Road at Murwillumbah on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
About 3.20pm, her gold Ford Escape wagon, with NSW registration EWS28P, was seen travelling north along Queensland Road towards Dungay. Neither Ms Whear nor her vehicle has been located, and her family has not heard from her since.
Family pleads for answers
Her daughter, Gillian Hallac, said every day without answers brought more confusion and heartbreak for the family.
“Our family is doing everything we can to cope, but the uncertainty is overwhelming,” Ms Hallac said.
“The support from the community has meant so much, and we just hope someone out there holds the piece of information that will bring Mum home.
“I miss her advice, her voice, her presence. It’s the everyday moments that hurt the most — the ones we never thought we’d lose. We just need to know where she is and what has happened so our family can finally breathe again.”
Ms Hallac said the uncertainty was particularly difficult for Ms Whear’s grandchildren and urged anyone with information to come forward.
“Someone out there knows something. Even the smallest detail could help bring Mum home, and we’re begging people to share what they know,” she said.
“Our family, especially her grandchildren, need answers.”
Search for missing Yvonne Whear
Extensive searches have been carried out across the Murwillumbah and Dungay areas using drones, helicopters, boats, sonar equipment and trail bikes, as well as crews searching in vehicles and on foot.
Ms Whear is described as being of Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance, about 154cm tall and of medium to solid build, with long grey-brown hair. She is known to frequent Murwillumbah and Dungay.
The renewed appeal to find missing Yvonne Whear comes during Missing Persons Week, which runs from August 2 to August 8 under this year’s theme, Answers Still Matter.
