Three teenage boys allegedly threatened staff and patrons before fleeing the Henry Rous Hotel on e-bikes.

A teenager allegedly pulled out a machete at a Ballina tavern as three boys threatened staff and patrons.

Police were called to the Henry Rous Hotel, on the corner of River and Moon streets, about 5.10pm on Friday following reports that teenagers were threatening staff.

Officers were told three teenage boys had harassed and threatened staff and patrons, with one allegedly producing a machete.

The family-owned hotel describes itself as a family-friendly tavern in the heart of Ballina.

The group fled on e-bikes before police arrived.

Police found one member of the group nearby and searched him before releasing him pending further inquiries.

Friday’s incident came less than three weeks after The Coast Report first reported a separate machete attack near Woolworths on River Street.

During the August 23 attack, a female and a male approached a 22-year-old man on an e-bike before the male passenger struck him in the leg with a machete.

The Coast Report later revealed the victim required five hours of surgery.

A 25-year-old Ballina man has since pleaded guilty to reckless wounding in company over that attack.

There is no suggestion the two incidents are connected.

Police are continuing their inquiries into reports of a machete at a Ballina tavern.
