A Port Macquarie man is facing four child sexual assault charges involving a young child known to him following an investigation by detectives from the Port Macquarie Child Abuse Squad.

Police allege the offences occurred on multiple occasions between November 2025 and July 2026, after the child first made a disclosure to an adult in late 2025.

Although no sexual assault disclosure was made when detectives interviewed the child in January, police continued investigating after a further disclosure in July, with additional interviews and inquiries leading to the charges.

Police facts allege the man warned the child “not to tell anyone” and that they would be “grounded” if the alleged abuse was disclosed. The man denies the allegations.

Two of the charges carry maximum penalties of life imprisonment.

The man remains in custody, and the charges have been referred to the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions to enter the formal process for serious indictable offences.

The allegations have not been proven.
