A 19-year-old man has been refused bail after an alleged knife incident at a Tamworth hotel.

Police were called to a hotel on Peel Street about 12.15am on Sunday, June 28, following reports of an assault.

Officers were told the 19-year-old had allegedly threatened another man, aged in his 20s, with a knife before chasing him along Peel Street.

Police will allege the man then returned to the hotel, where he brandished the knife at security guards and made verbal threats.

The 19-year-old was arrested in the hotel carpark and police seized a knife.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with nine offences, including three counts of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, three counts of stalking or intimidating with intent to cause fear of physical harm, custody of a knife in a public place, assault, and an offence relating to three or more people using violence causing fear.

He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 5 on Sunday, where bail was formally refused.

He is due to reappear before Tamworth Local Court on Monday, July 13.

Police inquiries are continuing.
