A 27-year-old Clarence Valley assistant nurse has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a 79-year-old patient with a cognitive impairment at a Maclean aged-care facility.

The charges relate to alleged incidents between November 2023 and February 2024.

Dylan Bowring, of the Clarence Valley, was arrested at Grafton Police Station on Monday following an investigation that began in June.

He has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a person with a cognitive impairment, aggravated sexual touching and carrying out an aggravated sexual act.

Bowring appeared in the Bail Division later that day while in custody.

He did not apply for bail, which was formally refused by Judge L Robinson.

The matters are listed for brief status at Grafton Local Court on September 7.

The allegations have not been proven.
